17.2h Percheron/Thoroughbred | Dressage Partner | Gentle Giant | Life Teacher
Radu—affectionately known as Dewey—was more than a horse. He was a best friend, a teacher, a dance partner, and a presence that filled every paddock and arena with quiet strength. A magnificent 17.2 hand Percheron/Thoroughbred cross, Radu defied expectations with his grace and sensitivity. To feel such a powerful horse move with lightness beneath you was a true thrill. He expected as much from his rider as he gave in return—requiring confidence, clarity, and a heart full of respect.
For 13 unforgettable years, Dewey was a cornerstone of life at Moose Ridge Farm. He embraced clicker training with joy and precision, taught countless students the value of hard work and perseverance, and forged a deep, creative partnership with his person. Together with Barton, the three of them shared countless hours of sweat, laughter, competitions, and quiet connection. From New York to Connecticut, in training rides and show arenas, Radu gave everything he had—and in doing so, helped create something beautiful.
He loved his pasture mate King and made space for the minis, even if they were a bit much. His presence in the barn was grounding, his lessons lasting, and his spirit unmistakably kind. Radu came into our lives through Wilette during the Hunter Hill chapter, and what a gift that was—his legacy now lives on in the muscle memory of students, in quiet moments of reflection, and in the continued pursuit of partnership and grace.
Thank you, Radu. Thank you, Dewey. You are deeply missed and forever loved.
