Meet Our New Farm Dogs: Tippy Tail & Chester!

Please welcome our newest farm family members: Tippy Tail and Chester, two Jack Russell puppies from Madra Beag Farm in Maine. At just 9.5 weeks old, these little bundles of love have already stolen our hearts. We brought them home on July 23, and life on the farm has been delightfully wiggly ever since. 💙💙

We’ve already started our positive reinforcement clicker training journey, and I plan to share tips and stories for fellow dog lovers as we go. In their very first week, the boys learned to “sit,” and we officially started recall games for “come.” I like to begin with a week of bonding—letting the puppies get to know us as their family—while gently introducing potty training and crate time.

As with any training, there are successes and a few stumbles, and that’s perfectly normal. Mistakes are part of the learning process. Our job is to set them up for success, guide them gently, and praise them often! Between short training sessions, there’s plenty of snuggling, ear scratches, and playful romping to keep everyone happy.

The rest of the barn crew is slowly adjusting to the new arrivals:

  • Uncle Charlie, our wise old farm dog, has warmed up nicely. Tippy Tail, in particular, adores his big new friend.

  • Ferris Mewler, our resident barn cat, is keeping his distance for now. Tippy would love to be friends, but Ferris… isn’t convinced yet!

These two little characters are already bringing so much joy to our days. Stay tuned for updates on their clicker training adventures—we’re just getting started!

Positively Reinforcing good horse and dog behavior

Moose Ridge Farm is located in Lincolnville, Maine just 15 minutes from the coast. A small Dressage Barn where ground work and under saddle work come together to create deeper understanding between horse and rider through clicker training. The horses are able to move around 24/7 in paddocks adjoining their stalls and in the fields. There is a lovely sunny indoor arena, heated tack room and warm water in the wash stall. Horses are given hay 4x day and stalls are fluffy. Alexandra has been clicker training horses for 23 years - her personal horses, her boarders and her riding students. She loves putting the puzzle pieces of animal behavior and training of equines and canines together, not only worki.n with the animals but also coaching the humans. Dog classes, though new to the farm, are not new to her. She grew up with dogs and cats, has raised 3 dogs the past 25 years and is a true animal lover. Positive Reinforcement training is fun and encourages kind, clear communication within boundaries.
