Tribute to Apple Field

Apple Field, the kindest mare I know (and I’ve met many mares over the years), has joined Lucky in the heavens....

To all of you that have known Apple since 2006 (Frannie, Aaron, Mirelle) — thank you for loving this amazing girl. To our newer friends, thank you too for seeing the beauty she possessed — she was always a good listener, always steady, always nickered at the handsome geldings 😍, and always reported when there were loose horses.

She was the heartbeat of Moose Ridge Farm, teaching many, many lessons — my assistant instructor! She taught Bea to teach, Mazy and others to lunge. She loved Annie-Sue like her filly and married Lucky with a special barn wedding years ago. She didn’t really like Pedro but tolerated him; yet she loved Genie and Vaquero and thought Radu was handsome too — as long as the boys didn’t get too close!!

She was easy-going to groom and saddle, and putting on her bridle was simple. She always yawned after the bit went into her mouth. She did many, many summer camps and wore lots of interesting outfits. She loved clicker training and always made the cutest noise when she did something right, as if asking for the treat.

She knew the scared children from the brave children and took care of EVERYONE 💕 Thank you, Apple, for teaching Dolina and giving her confidence (as you did to so many students). I trusted you so much, as you were so gentle with the kids. Apple was steady as a rock but with the softest heart — and had the best Hollywood whinny.

My dear Apple, I’ve called you 26 for years and we now suspect you are 30 or so. I am beyond thankful for all you’ve done for us and in such a graceful, loving manner. You are cherished by many and by myself. A student once said, “Apple is like the cherry on top of the ice cream!” That you are, my friend, and more.....

May you be pain-free and roam with Lucky and Radu over the clouds in heaven.

A big thank you to Dr. Williams and your assistants for making her last days at home as comfortable as possible, and to Kristine Learner for helping us so much, and Chris Chatfield for your loving support, and to KATIE for your amazing hugs, and to Bea and India for understanding what a deep connection means and loving my Apple Pie.

She will be so soooooo missed....so many good people have been in her life (those before me as well). Thank you to the Fields for trusting me to take good care of Apple and for sharing her with me 💕 and the community.

Positively Reinforcing good horse and dog behavior

Moose Ridge Farm is located in Lincolnville, Maine just 15 minutes from the coast. A small Dressage Barn where ground work and under saddle work come together to create deeper understanding between horse and rider through clicker training. The horses are able to move around 24/7 in paddocks adjoining their stalls and in the fields. There is a lovely sunny indoor arena, heated tack room and warm water in the wash stall. Horses are given hay 4x day and stalls are fluffy. Alexandra has been clicker training horses for 23 years - her personal horses, her boarders and her riding students. She loves putting the puzzle pieces of animal behavior and training of equines and canines together, not only worki.n with the animals but also coaching the humans. Dog classes, though new to the farm, are not new to her. She grew up with dogs and cats, has raised 3 dogs the past 25 years and is a true animal lover. Positive Reinforcement training is fun and encourages kind, clear communication within boundaries.
